Meltdown Map — Guide 6

When your child is overwhelmed, stimming more intensely, crying, screaming, shutting down, running away, hitting, or simply unable to communicate what they need, it can leave the entire family feeling confused and exhausted. Meltdown Map was created to help parents and caregivers understand what may be happening beneath the behavior.

This practical Peaceful Playtime guide helps you recognize sensory overload, triggers, early warning signs, changes in stimming, emotional escalation, and patterns that can lead to a meltdown. You’ll learn how to respond with fewer words, reduce demands, create a safer environment, and support your child through the moment without adding more pressure.

Just as importantly, Meltdown Map focuses on what happens after the meltdown—helping your child recover, reconnect, and helping you look back at what may have triggered the experience so you can prepare differently next time.

Stimming is often a way children regulate themselves, so the goal isn’t to stop it. The goal is to notice what your child is communicating and recognize when their usual coping strategies may no longer be enough.

See the signs. Lower the stress. Support recovery. More understanding. More connection. 🐋💜
